As a third year Unitec student about to complete a Bachelor of Business, with a major in marketing, I am faced with the project of marketing myself as a brand.
With a natural interest and passion for all things travel and tourism related I have decided to dedicate this blog to researching and posting interesting material on travel.
Currently New Zealand’s Tourism Marketing strategy is heavily focused on its film industry, using the Hobbit trilogy to its advantage to help gain international attention and encourage tourists to visit ‘Middle-earth’ first hand. New Zealand is also interested in attracting tourists with special interest in outdoor activities, the highest interest currently being in cycling, fly-fishing golf, skiing and hiking.
New Zealand will achieve growth in the tourism market by working closely with the relevant trade agents, attending trade shows, bringing sector media and opinion leaders to New Zealand to experience our product, and running marketing campaigns.
So with the above in mind it is in my interest to explore the travel and tourism industry further and begin to develop my own ideas as to how New Zealand can strategically utilise its tourism marketing.
